"Look carefully then how you walk,
not as unwise but as wise, making the best
use of the time, because the days are evil."
Ephesians 5:15,16
During a recent road trip I noticed that
a car passed me quite fast on the right with
another car following right behind it. They
quickly wove in and out of three lanes of traffic.
Drivers had to swiftly move out of the way
or slow down as the drivers sped on their way.
I remember saying a quick prayer for their
safety and for anyone around them.
As I thought about the brief happening, I
thought of how frequently I – each of
us – speed along life's way. We hurry
along on our own agenda. Many times we are
not aware of or do not consider the affect
of our actions on others. Others have to adjust
to accommodate our plans, just as nearby vehicles
had to slow down or move over to accommodate
the speeding cars.
Prayer is needed regularly to help us slow
down and become aware of those around us – their
joys, sorrows, needs to say something special
to us. Otherwise special opportunities that
God designs in the gift of time may be missed.
The generations of people that have gone
before us have shared a great gift with you!
While they lived in times that were slower
than the present, they knew that passing on
faith was the best use of time. God still speaks
through the generations today. Take time to
listen!
Who
is it that you need to slow down so that you can
notice and really listen to today? Imagine the
added blessings you can give – and receive!
God
of love, slow me down today in body, mind, and spirit
so that I can notice and listen to you active in
my life and through others. Bless the people I
often miss as I hurry through life. Amen.
